When Bill Runzel IV founded Lake Cable, he brought with him over 100 years of experience in the wire industry. As a result, Lake Cable continues to set the pace for the industry with the fastest lead times, consistently exceptional quality, and a manufacturing process that outperforms traditional methods. This high standard extends to recruiting and cross training the best talent, eliminating guesswork in projects, and building strong customer relationships based on collaboration and trust.
Lake Cable began on Chicago’s west side with just three machines and four dedicated employees. Now, as we mark our 30th year, we’ve grown into a leading manufacturer with five advanced facilities across Illinois and Indiana—continuing our legacy of excellence and unwavering customer commitment.
Our innovative cell manufacturing process consolidates insulation, cabling, jacketing, and packaging into efficient “mini factories,” enabling us to streamline operations and ensure superior quality. This approach is reinforced by a team of cross-trained professionals who oversee every aspect of production and track each order in real time.
Lake Cable’s fully integrated system meticulously documents the process from design to delivery, providing full traceability of each product—from raw materials to operators and production lines—ensuring exceptional accountability and quality control. This capability allows us to swiftly deliver custom solutions, including unique jacket colors, print legends, cable constructions, packaging, and lengths—even personalized company names on labels. That's why 80% of everything we manufacture at Lake Cable is recyclable. In addition, we’ve moved to a new method of water utilization in our plants that improves water circulation, resulting in a 25-30% savings in water consumption.

All wire and cable products manufactured by Lake Cable are produced in one of our three state-of-the-art production facilities located within the United States. Our wire drawing and fabrication are handled by Lake Copper in Elkhart, Indiana. We also source the majority of our copper, shielding material, barrier tape, insulation, and jacketing compounds from domestic metals and plastics manufacturers.
