By this time, it seems like there’s a college football bowl for just about everything (including the San Diego Country Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl). With this in mind, we thought…why should we be any different? That’s why we were proud to give the world the Lake Cable Copper Bowl.
No, you wouldn’t have found the Copper Bowl on your local ESPN network. Each week, Lake Cable’s college football fantasy pick ‘em league let customers channel their inner prognosticator to choose the winners of each college football game. For lucky weekly winners like Andy Pisarski and Tony Spina, they walked away with a $50 gift card and the chance to win a grand prize at the end of the season: Tickets for 4 to a major sporting event in Chicago or a local venue of the winner’s choosing.
Part of the fun was that you didn’t need to be a complete football guru to win. Players could earn points just from picking the winners of each game and even check out who their competitors were picking too.
The Biggest Play of the Season
In the end, one performance at the Lake Cable Copper Bowl truly exceeded all our expectations. It's not just because Jeff Young of Anixter Wire & Cable made enough correct picks to earn the title of Lake Cable Copper Bowl Grand Champion.
No, what happened next was even more impressive.
Jeff graciously offered to donate his winnings to a charity – in this case, the 4 tickets will be donated in his name to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to:
- Find the cause of and cure for childhood brain tumors by supporting medical research
- Increase public awareness about the severity and prevalence of childhood brain tumors
- Aid in the early detection and treatment of childhood brain tumors
- Support a national database on all primary brain tumors
- Provide educational and emotional support for children and families effected by this life-threatening disease.
Through Jeff’s generous donation, a local family with a child suffering with a pediatric brain tumor has been chosen as the recipient of this gift. They are very excited and look forward to making some amazing memories together.
